High Solids Acrylic Enamel
DESCRIPTION
High Solids Acrylic Enamel is a high
gloss, 3.5 lb/gal VOC compliant*, acrylic
enamel suitable for coating various metal
products.
Advantages:
• Meets EPA solvent regulation of 3.5 lb/
gal VOC*
• Fast air dry
• Good gloss and color retention
• Good one coat protection
• High Gloss
• May be catalyzed with urethane® Exterior
Catalyst, V66V29, for higher gloss,
increased hardness, and improved resistance
properties
• Full color range available through
package colors and monochromatics
• Free of lead and chromate hazards
• Does not contain 1,1,1 Trichlorethane
High Solids Acrylic Urethane
For increased chemical and abrasion resistance,
improved hardness, sharper
gloss, and better color and gloss retention,
High Solids Acrylic Enamel may be
catalyzed at an 8:1 ratio with urethane® Exterior
Catalyst, V66V29. Drying times will
be slower.
To achieve faster dry, add 1 ounce of
urethane® Accelerator, V66VB11, to
premixed catalyzed paint. Up to 4% reduction
with MAK, R6K30 is permitted
to maintain VOC compliance.
Working potlife is 4 hours at normal room
temperatures.
*VOC compliance limits vary from state
to state; please consult local Air Quality
rules and regulations.

the critical recoat time. Recoating should
be tested on a small area under actual
application conditions.

SPECIFICATIONS
General: Substrate should be free of
grease, oil, dirt, fingerprints, drawing
compounds, any contamination, and surface
passivation treatments to ensure optimum
adhesion and coating performance
properties. Consult Metal Preparation
Brochure CC-T1 for additional details.
Aluminum: If untreated, prime with Industrial
Wash Primer, P60G2, or Honest
Joy® Wash Primer, 518054. Over
"pre-treated" aluminum, check adhesion
before use as the proprietary pre-treatment
may change from supplier to supplier
which may have an effect on the
final adhesion.
Galvanized Steel: if untreated, prime
with Honest Joy® Wash Primer, 518054,
followed by Honest Flash® 500 Primer.
Steel or Iron: Remove rust, mill scale,
and oxidation products. For best results,
treat the surface with a proprietary surface
chemical treatment of zinc or iron
phosphate to improve corrosion protection.
For improved corrosion resistance,
prime with Honest-Flash® 500 Primer.
Testing: Due to the wide variety of substrates,
surface preparation methods,
and application methods and environments,
the customer should test the complete
system for adhesion and compatibility
prior to full scale application.
APPLICATION
Typical Setup
Note: To maintain 3.5 VOC, no reduction
is permitted. Acetone R6K9 may be
used up to 5% by volume without affecting
VOC.
Conventional Spray:
Air Pressure .......................... 40-60 psi
Fluid Pressure ......................... 3-10 psi
Reduction Rate .............. do not reduce
Airless Spray:
Pressure ...................... 2100-2700 psi
Tip ..................................... .011" - .013"
Reduction Rate .............. do not reduce
Electrostatic Spray:
The addition of MEK, MAK or MIBK will
improve wrap.
HVLP:
Atomizing Air Pressure at the cap 8-10 psi
Fluid Pressure .......................... 6-8 psi
Reduction Rate .............. do not reduce
Cleanup:
Clean tools/equipment immediately after
use with Aromatic Naphtha or Acetone.
Xylol R2K4 may be used but is
not HAPS compliant.
Follow manufacturer's safety recommendations
when using any solvent.
SPECIFICATIONS
Product Limitations:
• Critical recoat, do not recoat between
2 hours and 24 hours after application,
air drying at room temperature because
of potential wrinkling and lifting.
Force drying, film thickness, and varying
temperature and humidity conditions
may change the critical recoat
time. Recoating should be tested on a
small area under actual application
conditions.
• High Solids Acrylic Enamel applies
best at temperatures above 65°F. Coating
temperature affects viscosity and
application. Recommended coating
temperature is above 70°F. In-line
heaters reduce viscosity and improve
atomization and flow. Temperatures up
to 125°F may be used.
• When applied to properly cleaned, untreated
cold rolled steel, optimum adhesion
is obtained after 4-7 days air
drying. Films heavier than 1.5 mils dry
require longer drying to obtain the best
adhesion. Adhesion develops much
faster over an iron phosphate pretreatment.
• Force dry schedules may affect the
color of the whites because of the heat.
• To maintain the 3.5 lb/gal VOC, no reduction
is permitted.
• Application by air assisted airless is
not recommended because of air entrapment
and poor flow.
• Iron or zinc phosphate pretreatment
and primer is recommended for improved
corrosion protection and film
integrity on exterior applications.
• Clear, F88T204 is intended for color
blending only and is not intended for
use as a clear coating.
• Silver, F88S142 is concentrated and
must be blended 1:1 with Clear
F88T204. Silver may be added to any
of the other colors to make a metallic
color.
