Thermosetting alkyd enamel
ADVANTAGES
* Available as tinting bases with high gloss and semi-gloss finishes
(system "B").
* Offers a wide variety of solid colours and metallic finishes.
USES
Conventional thermosetting alkyd enamel suitable for various products, such as:
lighting fixtures, household appliances, metal furniture and other metal articles.
STORAGE
This product may be stored for a minimum period of 12 months in its original
unopened container at a maximum of 35°C (95°F).
RESTRICTIONS
* For interior use only.
* In order to avoid discoloration of light and pastel colours, do not bake at a
temperature above 160°C (320°F) or do not exceed twice the normal baking
schedule.
DRY FILM PROPERTIES
Tests performed over Bonderite 1000 treated steel (#24 gauge)
at a dry film thickness of 1.0-1.2 mils (25-30 microns).
Adhesion to substrate: 100% - 5B (ASTM D-3359B)
Hardness: HB minimum (ASTM D-3363)

The tinting system uses the colorants of series 413.
CHARACTERISTICS (of liquid)
Viscosity delivered at 25°C (77°F): 55±10 sec. Ford cup #4
(140 to 240 cps)
Weight/solids (ASTM D-4909): 44±2%
Volume/solids (ASTM D-4909): 36±1%
VOC: 545 g/litre (4.54 lbs/US gal.)
Spreading rate (1): 14.2 m2/litre (561 ft2/US gal.)
(1) Calculation based on minimum volume solids at a dry film thickness of
1 mil (25 microns).
SURFACE PREPARATION
* Surface must be clean, dry and free of soot, grease, oil or any
other contaminant.
* To ensure good adhesion, ferrous and non-ferrous metal
surfaces should be treated:
. Chemically with a minimum of 3 stages of zinc or iron
phosphate.
. For superior corrosion resistance apply a monobake primer.
MIX AND DILUTION
Dilute up to 40% by volume using:
* 599-011 (medium evaporation) - for regular conditions
* 400-011 (slow evaporation) - for hot substrates or heavy coats
METHOD OF APPLICATION
By spraying, using one of the following equipment:
* air spray
* hot and airless
* H.V.L.P.
* or their electrostatic versions
Application recommendations:
* Application temperature: 15-30°C (59-86°F).
* Light sanding is recommended between coats to ensure good
intercoat adhesion.
* Dry film thickness: 1-2 mils (25-50 microns).
BAKING SCHEDULE
* Flash off: minimum 5 minutes.
* Baking 7-12 minutes at 150°C / 300°F (metal temperature).
* Cooling: minimum 10 minutes before stacking or packaging.
RECOMMENDED PRIMERS
* Series 425 - monobake
* Series 577 - epoxy
CLEAN UP
Clean equipment immediately after use with the 300-011 lacquer
thinner or an equivalent.
SAFETY MEASURES
Warning:
This product contains organic solvents and may contain lead-based
pigments once tinted.
