Two-component acrylic urethane enamel
Topcoat
ADVANTAGES
* Premixed colors or intermix tinting system (series T).
* Excellent exterior durability.
* Excellent chemical resistance.
* Good hiding.
* Easy to apply.
* Fast curing.
* Meets BNQ-3712-605 specification.
USES
As a finishing coat for industrial and transportation material such as: fleet and
recreational vehicles, locomotives, trucks, snowmobiles, farm equipment, buses,
furniture and metal cabinets.
STORAGE
It can be stored in its original unopened container for a minimum of 12 months
at a temperature below 35°C (95°F).
The hardener 581-044 reacts with humidity, keep the container tightly closed.
RESTRICTION
Must be applied at a temperature above 15°C (59°F) and a relative humidity
below 65%.
After a drying period of 72 hours and over, sand lightly before application of a
new topcoat.
DRY FILM CHARACTERISTICS
Tests performed on Bonderite 1000 treated steel at a dry film
thickness of 1.5 mils (37.5 microns) after an ageing period of
7 days at 25°C (77°F).

(1) Calculation based on minimum volume solids at a dry film thickness
of 1 mil (25 microns).
SURFACE PREPARATION
* The surface must be clean, dry, free of soot, grease, oil or any
other contaminant.
* Use the 585-022 cleaner.
* Recommended primers:
. metal substrate: two-component epoxy (577 line)
. wood substrate: two-component urethane (574 line)
MIX AND DILUTION
* Mix ratio (volume/volume):
. series 585: 3 parts
. 581-044 (hardener): 1 part
* Accelerator:
If necessary, use the 585-090 up to a maximum of 33 ml/litre
(125 ml/US gal. or 4.25 oz./US gal.).
* Pot life:
. without accelerator: 7 hours<
. with maximum accelerator: 3 to 4 hours
* Dilution, use 10 to 20% (volume/volume) of either:
. 580-024 (fast evaporation)
. 580-025 (medium evaporation)
. 580-026 (slow evaporation)
* For metallic finishes, use the 585-012 (stabilizing diluent) 10 to 20%
(volume/volume).
METHOD OF APPLICATION
* Conventional spray
* H.V.L.P.
Note: If used with pumps (airless or Airmix), dilute only with the
solvent 580-043 at 10-15% - obtain 26 sec. on EZ # 2.
Important: Always mix well the solvent 580-043 before using it.
Application recommendations:
* Normal application temperature: 15-30°C (59-86°F).
* Dry film thickness: 1.5 to 2.0 mils (37.5 to 50 microns).
